The Delaware River Port Authority has agreed on a $139m deck refurbishment for the Walt Whitman Bridge in New Jersey, US.

The American Bridge Company has received the $128m construction contract while the Urban Engineers/URS Corporation joint venture secured the $11.7m construction monitoring contract.

Work involves removal of the suspended span, fitting a new lightweight, concrete filled jointless grid deck, structure betterments, new parapets and a new steel shell movable barrier.

The initial work is scheduled to begin in August this year and will be complete in 2014, according to khl.com.
