The US state of Vermont has approved a $595m transportation budget for the fiscal year 2011, which includes $113.2m for bridge rehabilitation and repair.

A further $5.8m grant is also expected to be spent on town-highway structures.

The grant is intended to be invested in the rehabilitation, repair and reconstruction of both bridges and culverts in various towns in the state.

The grant programme and state bridge budget are expected to fund works on about 150 bridges state-wide.

Other works include $93.4m for paving about 300 miles of roadway.
