Spanish IT services firm Ibermatica has developed a new system for Spain’s General Traffic Department (DGT), which allows motorists to access penalty procedures for road traffic fines via the Internet.

With the new technology, the DGT is expected to offer benefits to vehicle owners and offenders while lowering the cost of fining motorists to the public.

Ibermatica said it developed the technology for the Nostra, an electronic fine notification system, and Testra, a central bulletin board for notices and updates for road users, projects.

The projects are intended to be in line with the latest reforms to the Road Safety Act and will replace the current unreliable system of notification by post.
