A joint venture comprised of Flatiron and Lane Construction has won a $136m contract to build the Yadkin River bridge in North Carolina, US.

The contract has been awarded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), which will use $10m in federal funds to finance the project, according to khl.com.

The project involves building a new dual Interstate 85 bridge and the adjacent US 29/70 bridge, spanning the Yadkin River.

The work also includes replacing a 55-year-old, four-lane structure on one of the sections of the Interstate roadway.

Flatiron-Lane is also expected to extend about 4.83km of I-85 to eight traffic lanes, including the north and south approach roadways to the bridges.
