Two US states – Indiana and Illinois – have agreed to jointly construct the proposed new Illiana expressway, which will connect both the states.

The Illinois Department of Transportation said it will enter into one or more public private agreements with contractors to develop, finance and operate the expressway on behalf of the state.

The expressway is expected to link drivers on I-55 in Western Will County to I-65 in Lake County and will serve as an alternate route to the I-90/94 corridor.

The interstate expressway is intended to allow more efficient movement of goods between the two states.
