INRIX has launched a free traffic operations web service for state, regional and municipal transportation agencies across the US.

The web service is expected to provide a complete view of accurate real-time traffic flow on all major highways, interstates, arterials and secondary roads.

The technology will cover more than 160,000 miles of roads nationwide and is expected to grow to over 260,000 by the end of the year.

The tool is expected to help the agencies better manage traffic operations, emergency response coordination and public safety in times of crisis or during heavy travel periods.

INRIX said the technology uses crowd-sourced real-time traffic information from more than two million GPS-enabled vehicles.

Thirty-seven states in the US are expected to employ INRIX traffic information to access traffic flow data in cities, state-wide and across state lines.
