Construction has begun on the first overhead road in Hanoi, Vietnam from north of Linh Dam Lake to the Thanh Xuan intersection.

The 3.3km road project worth VND1.3tn ($68m) is part of the second phase of the beltway No.3 project around Hanoi.

The overhead road will be 8.4km long, 24m wide and will cover four lanes.

The project is scheduled to be complete by the end of this year with the remaining work due to be finished in 2012, according to saigon-gpdaily.com.vn.

The Official Development Assistance of Japan has invested a total of VND5.5tn ($290m) in the beltway project.
