The Washington state department of transportation in the US has awarded a bridge replacement contract worth $114.5m to Skanska USA Civil.

The construction contract includes replacing the southern mile of the Alaskan Way Viaduct with a side-by-side roadway.

The new roadway is expected to meet today’s standards for earthquake resistance, traffic flow and safety, and environmental protection.

The viaduct replacement project received federal funds of up to $101m and is intended to increase mobility and safety in the region.
