The Australian state of New South Wales called for expressions of interest for a road renovation project near the Sydney Opera House.

The upgrade work, estimated to cost A$152m ($134m) will include construction of several tunnels and building of a new underground scenery platform.

The vehicle access and pedestrian safety project is scheduled to begin in early 2011 and be completed by 2013, according to International Business Times.

The work is intended to improve safety for pedestrians at the Sydney opera house, which brings in around 7.4 million visitors a year and over 1,000 vehicles a week.
