Oman is planning to construct a $1.5bn bridge to tourist hotspot Masirah Island off the country’s east coast, famed for its turtle habitat.

The bridge, which will be 40km long on completion, will be among the longest sea bridges in the world.

Omani officials said construction of the bridge will begin early next year, according to Reuters.

The government said it will open the tendering process for the bridge to international bidders next year.
