Gloucestershire County Council in the UK is widening its CCTV traffic monitoring network with an additional 30 cameras and integrated software from Siemens.

The integrated urban traffic management control (UTMC) system should allow CCTV cameras from different suppliers to be viewed through a single UTMC-compliant control centre.

Under the contract, Siemens will deliver 19 Telscan CCTV cameras, which will be deployed at a number of key intersections across the county.

The cameras are fully weatherproof, with pan/tilt/zoom features, and can be viewed and controlled from a computer within the traffic office or through an IP addressable.

GCC deputy traffic manager John Whittaker said the county decided to extend the camera network to allow the traffic engineers to quickly adapt traffic management strategies to ease the flow.
