Malaysia is planning to improve road safety near steep slopes and ravines along highways to curb road crashes.

Malaysian transport minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho said a national committee is being set up to examine high-profile road crashes nationwide and plan policies to control them.

The committee is expected to look into road safety features and prepare mass action plans for enhancing road safety.

On the Behrang-Taiping section alone there have been a total of 25 crashes, 17 of them involving buses, between 2007 and 2010, resulting in 64 fatalities and 221 injuries.

On other road sections of the North-South Expressway and other federal roads, 37 accidents have caused 92 fatalities and 297 injuries during the same period, according to
