The New Zealand Transport Agency is set to deploy electronic journey time signs across the Auckland motorway network to provide motorists accurate travel information to selected destinations.

The digital systems provide accurate travel estimates and feature automatic updates as traffic conditions change, according to the agency.

Travel information is gathered from detectors on motorways and arterial roads measuring traffic volumes, traffic density and speeds.

Over 150 electronic journey time signs have been commissioned and are expected to be installed over the next three months.

A total of 47 signs will operate on arterial roads approaching the Southern, Northern and Northwestern Motorways.

The signs are part of a series of traveller information initiatives undertaken by the state’s transport authority.
