A proposed 4.8km road in Neath Port Talbot county in Wales has received funding from the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Union.

The £107m ($164.7m) funding will enable the completion of the peripheral distributor road, which is the second phase of a major transport route.

The project received £56.2m ($86.5m) from the Convergence European Regional Development Fund and a £50.7m ($77.9m) Transport Grant.

The new road is expected to provide a direct link to West Wales, the UK motorway network, the trunk road network and mainland Europe.

The new road will offer increased access to Port Talbot Docks and Deep Water Harbour, whilst creating opportunities for freight transfer and waterfront development and improve journey times.

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council will deliver the project, which is expected to take 33 months to complete.
