Liberia is seeking $1bn in funds from miners and other investors to upgrade the nation’s road network.

Mining firms such as ArcelorMittal, China Union and Severstal and Golden Agri Resources are possible partners for funding, according to Reuters.

The 14-year civil war, which plagued the nation, has destroyed the road network despite rebuilding efforts of donors and a United Nations peacekeeping force.

It is also exploring new options to manage reconstruction projects, including inviting some foreign firms to handle contracts directly.
