Bradford Council in the UK has installed dimming devices on all new street lights in the region to reduce carbon emissions and cut energy costs.

The dimming equipment is expected to reduce the street light’s power consumption by 25%.

The cost to install the device is estimated to be £100 ($154.48) per column and the council plans to install 850 units by 2010.

The dimming scheme has already been tested as a pilot project in some parts of Odsal, Idle, East Bowling and Thornton with success.
