UK-based infrastructure group Balfour Beatty, in consortium with the Royal BAM Group, has been selected by Ireland’s National Roads Authority to construct a road in the country.

The £250m ($390.5m) road contract has a 25-year concession period and will be built under public-private partnership.

The N17/N18 road contract will involve the construction of 57km of motorway between Gort and Tuam in the West of the country as part of the Atlantic road corridor.

The scheme also includes 38 bridges and a major intersection with the new M6 Dublin to Galway inter-urban motorway.

Once the project secures funding, work is expected to begin next year with completion scheduled in 2014.

Balfour Beatty will invest equity of £17m ($26.5m) in the project and has a 50% share in the consortium.
