The Australian state of Victoria has launched an iPhone application to increase road safety and to deliver information to the public.

The free application VicTraffic will provide real-time information about travel times, traffic updates and incident alerts for commuters.

The application has been developed by the state highway department VicRoads and allows motorists to plan their trip before they start and save the details of the routes they use most often.

The application will also offer live traffic vision from 40 cameras across the city of Melbourne, as well as information about the state’s freeways and major roads.
