The California department of transportation in the US has said that $932m in transportation funding has been deferred due to a delayed state budget.

The department has said $3bn in transportation projects have been put on hold state-wide in August this year, bringing the total to $3.9bn in the past two months.

The California Transportation Commission has deferred $156m in allocations for nine projects, including $106m for five projects funded by Proposition 1B.

The funding that awaits approval from the state budget includes a partial allocation to local agencies, valued at $678m, including $37m for 20 transportation projects statewide.

Many of the projects include construction of new lanes, extension of connector ramps and conversion of bus/carpool lanes to bus/carpool toll lanes.
