A new 4km six-lane dual carriageway has been opened in Delhi, India, for trial ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The elevated road over Barapulla Nullah will connect the games village and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, and would cut players’ travel time between the two venues by nearly 20 minutes.

The INR5,500m ($122m) road link has been built by India-based DSC in about 20 months.

The road link, featuring an 80,000m² deck span, is expected to be open to the public after the games, according to local sources.

The Delhi public works department plans to extend the elevated road project up to Mayur Vihar in the East and INA in the West.
