UK mobile ticketing technology provider Masabi has secured $2m from M8 Capital for the deployment of its mobile ticketing systems across UK rail companies.

The funds will be used to support commercial deployments and enable Masabi to expand its mobile ticketing operations into other areas.

Masabi’s ‘Ticket Machine in your Pocket’ technology is designed to ensure secure and usable ticket purchases on most of the common mobile phone handsets, and high-end smartphones.

M8 Capital partner Joseph Kim said “Masabi’s technology has the potential to remove all the inconvenience and hassle of buying a train ticket.”

Masabi’s application allows commuters to search, select and purchase tickets using a credit or debit card from a mobile phone.

Tickets can either be displayed on the phone’s screen via barcode technology, or traditional printed tickets can be picked up from the train station.

The company is already working with customers, including Atos Origin and thetrainline.com, with the first consumer launches due in the coming months.
