Pakistan requires PKR17.4bn ($201.8m) for rehabilitation of the nation’s roads, the National Highway Authority has said.

NHA said Khyber Pakhtoonkhawan and Sindh were the most damaged provinces and incurred costs of PKR7.7bn ($89m) and PKR3.4bn ($39m) respectively.

The rehabilitation cost for KPK, Sindh Punjab and Baluchistan, is PKR9.3bn ($107.8m), PKR4.6bn ($53m) and PKR1.4bn ($16m).

The authority said roads in the region are getting severely damaged due to overloading, and proposed that fines on overloading should be enhanced as a deterrent to such behaviour.
