The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is planning to place a bid to operate the 10-mile south bay expressway (SBX) in the Californian city in the US.

SBX toll road is a privately-funded southern extension of SR 125, and beginning at SR 905 in Otay Mesa, it provides access to Mexico.

SANDAG will consider negotiations for the 35-year state lease, which extends until 2042.

South Bay said they will consider the interest from SANDAG along with the other potential parties who will place bids, according to local sources.

South Bay Expressway filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganisation earlier in this year due to recession, and owes around $510m, including $170m in federal loans to its creditors.
