Sarasota City Commission in the US state of Florida has approved a plan for the installation of red-light cameras in the region, to catch drivers running red lights.

The proposal includes installing red light cameras at ten busy city intersections considered dangerous.

Drivers running a red light in these areas will be hit with a $158 fine, $83 of which will go to the state, while the remaining $75 will go to the companies responsible for maintaining cameras in the city, according to the heraldtribune.com.

The intersection of Fruitville and Beneva roads, which recorded about 95 crashes since last year, is said to top the proposed list of ten intersections for the cameras.

The Commission is yet to review bids from red-light camera companies, and another public hearing is required before a final vote approves the plan.
