The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has installed an automatic incidence detection system in five tunnels on Al Salam Street to ensure smooth and safe traffic movement in the tunnels.

The five tunnels, with a capacity of about 6,000 vehicles per hour, will be opened for traffic soon.

The new system monitors traffic congestion, detects any traffic violations and sends alerts to the system operator immediately.

The operator will direct the traffic via electronic message signs that display up-to-date information on road conditions that help drivers find alternative routes, according to Gulf News, quoting an official spokesman of the municipality.

The new system comprises advanced safety features, includes various emergency exits and also ensures mobile access for all GSM users inside the tunnels.

The key features of the monitoring system are automated monitoring of traffic levels, lighting control system, fire, toxic gas and temperature detectors, uninterrupted power supply and tunnel drainage pump systems.
