The Australian Government has constructed a new clearway on Church and Devlin streets and Lane Cove Road in Sydney.

The new 8km stretch of clearway forms part of the New South Wales (NSW) government’s $121m clearways programme, which seeks to free up road space and reduce Sydney’s congestion.

Australian Roads Minister Duncan Gay said: "With congestion currently costing Sydney around $5.1bn each year, the NSW government is committed to maximising the use of existing road space and delivering travel time savings for motorists.

"The NSW government is committed to maximising the use of existing road space and delivering travel time savings for motorists."

"We’re not just building long-term congestion busting projects like NorthConnex and WestConnex, we’re also providing immediate relief on busy roads such as Victoria Road, the Princes Highway, Anzac Parade and now Church and Devlin streets and Lane Cove Road."

The new clearway is expected to improve travel times for motorists between the Ryde Bridge and Yanko Road at West Pymble.

Lane Cove member Anthony Roberts said: "This will be welcome news for passengers on the 26 bus routes using Church and Devlin streets and Lane Cove Road, and the 40,000 vehicles travelling from Macquarie Park to the M2, as well as motorists requiring access to Ryde and Homebush,"

The clearway is scheduled to operate in both directions on weekdays between 6am and 7pm and between 9am and 6pm on weekends.

Under the Clearways Strategy, the government also committed $21m to assist councils and NSW’s roads and maritime authority to offer alternative parking for businesses near proposed clearways.

According to Ryde member Victor Dominello, a new car parking bay southbound on Lane Cove Road between Talavera and Waterloo roads at Macquarie Park would ensure three lanes of southbound traffic at all times and parking for nearby businesses.
