CarCharging, a US-based provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging services, is launching a joint initiative with Nissan to increase the availability of EV charging and expand consumer awareness of the electric car market.

Under the new partnership, CarCharging and Nissan will together determine the placement of chargers, which are expected to be installed in vital markets across the US by the end of 2013.

Initially, the initiative aims to install 48 Nissan-branded quick chargers, mainly in California and on the East Coast.

Nissan’s quick charger stations are considered to significantly lower the charging times, charging a fully depleted Nissan Leaf to 80% capacity in about 30 minutes.

As part of the new initiative, CarCharging will create awareness among consumers on how the EV charging infrastructure improves the adoption and use of electric cars.

"The initiative aims to install 48 Nissan-branded quick chargers, mainly in California and on the East Coast."

This campaign will comprise tools to communicate the charging opportunities for drivers without private garages, such as residents of apartment and condo communities; the ease and benefits of public EV charging and charging subscription offers.

CarCharging CEO Michael Farkas said; "Through our partnership with Nissan, we are eager to expand the EV market by educating consumers who don’t live in single-family homes and may not be aware of public EV charging services available today."

CarCharging is also designing a mobile app in order to offer real-time charging station location information with turn-by-turn directions and access capability for all CarCharging EV charging stations, including ChargePoint and Nissan’s quick chargers.

CarCharging will also offer its evCharge card at free of cost to all Leaf drivers at participating Nissan dealerships, which allows drivers to initiate use and payment at all public charging stations on the ChargePoint network.
