Comol5, an international joint venture (JV) that consists of TBI companies Mobilis and Croonwolter&dros, DIMCO (DEME Infra Marine Contractors) and VINCI Construction Grands Projets, has been awarded a €492m contract by the Province of South Holland for building the Rijnland Route in the Netherlands.

The Rijnland Route is reported to be a new road connection from Katwijk, via the A44, to the A4 at Leiden.

Comol5 JV will be reconstructing the Leiden West motorway junction, as well as the construction of the 4km new road N434, including a 2.2km-length bored tunnel.

"This new road is expected to improve the accessibility, as well as traffic flow, and also help in the economic growth in the region."

It will also be responsible for the 12km of motorway widening and adaptations to the A4 and A44 required for construction of the Rijnland Route. It will be implemented under traffic with pertaining interchanges.

Additionally, the contract also comprises maintenance of these new roads for a period of 15 years.

The construction of these structures is expected to be completed over the next six years. Each of the project partners of Comol5 will have 25% stake in the €492m contract.

All the participating companies in the JV are reported to have a vast experience in designing and developing large infrastructural projects such as bridges and tunnels, particularly bored tunnels.
