The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has selected a joint venture (JV) between Skanska and Ajax Paving Industries to design and reconstruct Interstate 275 in Tampa, Florida, US, for a total cost of SEK1.46bn ($215m).

The JV will design and reconstruct I-275 on state route 93, between state route 60 (Memorial Highway) and the Hillsborough River in Tampa, to improve traffic flow.

Skanska and Ajax Paving Industries will replace the existing highway with four northbound through lanes from Westshore Boulevard to Himes Avenue.

The work, which is set to begin in July 2012 and expected to be completed by July 2016, will also include modification of ramps and interchanges to improve traffic flow.

Skanska holds a 70% share of the contract at about SEK1bn ($150m), which will be included in order bookings for Skanska USA Civil in Q2 2012.

Ajax Paving Industries is a US-based company that provides professional concrete and asphalt paving services.

Skanska is a Swedish development and construction company and one of its four business units, Skanska USA Civil, specialises in civil infrastructure work.
