HP Software has been selected by the city of Auckland, New Zealand, to execute a Big Data project, which has been developed to deliver a safer community and efficient roadways in the city.

Auckland’s Government agency, Auckland Transport, will install the video analytics powered by HP IDOL on servers and storage from HP Enterprise Group with the help from HP Software Professional Services.

Using HP’s integrated big-data platform, Auckland Transport will be able to analyse, understand and act on a large amount of virtual data, including text, images, audio and real-time video.

"Using HP’s integrated big-data platform, Auckland Transport will be able to analyse, understand and act on a large amount of virtual data."

The system will receive data from different sources, including the security and traffic management cameras, road and environmental sensors, real-time social media and news feeds.

Auckland Transport CIO Roger Jones said: "The safety and well-being of our citizens is always our top priority and the Future Cities initiative is a big step in the right direction.

"Only HP could comprehensively deliver the custom solution, expertise and ecosystem at this scale to transform our vision into reality."

The hardware infrastructure of HP, a mixture of servers and storage systems, will help Auckland Transport to make the city safer.

HP will provide the HP proliant gen8 blade system, HP 3par storeserv storage, HP storeall archive and HP flexfabric.

HP’s Intelligent Scene Analysis System and licence plate recognition will be used by law enforcement agencies for the identification and scene analysis of incidents. More than 2,000 cameras in the city will help analyse safety threats.
