European technical services provider Royal Imtech has been awarded new orders valued at more than €43m to provide high-tech traffic technology.

These orders include supplying technical infrastructure for a double-deck tunnel in Maastricht, Netherlands, as well as upgrading and improving the current traffic infrastructure in Stockholm in Sweden and Moscow in Russia.

Imtech CEO René van Bruggen said that the company’s footprint in Europe is growing.

"Imtech’s smart traffic technology solutions are allowing it to contribute to better traffic management in Europe, which will improve traffic flow as well as the safety of road users," Bruggen added.

In the Netherlands, the company, will provide the design and implementation of technical solutions such as the overall management, monitoring and control systems for The Green Carpet (De Groene Loper), a 2.3km double-deck tunnel in Maastricht which is a part of the A2 motorway.

The tunnel, which is the first to be built as per the new Dutch tunnel standard, will allow 80% of the current traffic volume to run underground, while significantly improving traffic flow and safety.

In Stockholm, Imtech will implement its high-tech Motorway Traffic Management (MTM) system on E18 motorway, which carries more than 50,000 vehicles per day, in order to improve safety

The company will deploy nearly 200 fully automated traffic Variable Message Signs (VMS) that will provide up-to-date traffic information and instructions.

Imtech will also supply 200 high-tech traffic controllers to Moscow, which is currently working on improving traffic mobility by upgrading its existing infrastructure of traffic control centres, glass fibre networks and intelligent traffic controllers.
