Indra toll

Spain-based technology company Indra has won three contracts from GMR, an Indian infrastructure company, to implement toll technology on motorways across four Indian states.

Indra will provide services in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Gujarat, for €8.6m.

The first contract involves supply, installation and start-up of the toll system for the 181km-long stretch of National Highway 9 (NH-9) motorway, which connects the cities of Hyderabad and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.

The deal will implement manual, electronic and mixed toll systems, including weigh-in motion technology used to classify vehicles, for 46 lanes.

In Karnakata, Indra will install its toll systems on National Highway 13 (NH-13) in the 97km road connecting Hungund and Hospet.

This contract will include installation of manual, electronic and mixed toll systems, along with weigh-in motion equipment for 42 lanes.

"Indra noted that the new contracts will fuel its growth in Asia’s emerging markets."

The contract in Rajasthan and Gujarat will cover installation of a temporary toll system, followed by a definitive toll on the Kishanfarh-Udaipur-Ahmedabad (KUA) stretch of road and on motorways of national highways 79, 76 and 8.

The Spanish company has also been awarded a €1.6m contract by Soma-Isolux Kinshangarh-Beawar Tollway to develop, install and maintain the management systems for the NH-8 motorway that links the cities of Kinshangarh and Beawar in Rajasthan.

The company will also install a control centre to manage traffic on the motorway, while integrating the various systems that include traffic counters, variable message panels, SOS posts, a weather station and closed circuit television (CCTV).

Indra noted that the new contracts will fuel its growth in Asia’s emerging markets.

The company’s other projects in Asia include its contracts to implement ticketing systems in the Kuala Lumpur monorail in Malaysia and its urban traffic control technology in the Chinese cities of Ghangde, Guilin, Korla and Liaocheng.
