INRIX Parking

INRIX, a US-based provider of traffic information and intelligent driver services, has launched its new global parking navigation service at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

INRIX Parking provides real-time information on cost, the number of available spaces and detailed location information for off-street parking spaces in North America and 36 countries across Europe.

Consumer electronics manufacturer Kenwood will be the first to implement INRIX Parking, the industry’s first connected car service, in its new in-dash DVD entertainment receivers, debuting at CES.

With the help of built-in wi-fi communication capabilities through Kenwood’s cloud services, INRIX provides owners of the Excelon DNN990HD and DNN770HD receivers with latest traffic information, parking, fuel and weather services.

INRIX president and CEO Bryan Mistele said that the company is connecting cars to the apps and services that people require to improve their driving experience.

"By making it easier for drivers to find a place to park, we help reduce traffic congestion for everyone," Mistele added.

"INRIX Parking provides real-time information on cost, the number of available spaces and detailed location information for off-street parking spaces."

Drivers searching for a parking space are estimated to cause around 30% of all urban traffic congestion, according to experts.

INRIX believes that its new service offers a solution to this problem by helping drivers quickly find and navigate to their preferred parking location.

The INRIX database comprises over 18,000 parking facilities in North America and 42,000 in Europe, sourced both for in-car and mobile use from parking service providers ParkMe and Parkopedia.

Other INRIX-powered products announced at CES include a new traffic app for iPhone and Android, premium traffic services in China in partnership with CenNavi, a new Glance n’ Go service, social network traffic alerts service, and INRIX Departure Times.
