INRIX, a US-based provider of traffic information and intelligent driver services, has launched its traffic application on Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system for tablets, PCs and Windows Phones.

"The traffic app also provides data and analyses the impacts of sporting events, concerts, school schedules and weather."

INRIX Traffic on Windows 8 allows drivers to compare traffic conditions, travel and recommended departure times, while delivering minute to minute information on traffic conditions for about one million miles of highways, city streets and other local roads.

The app provides real-time information that is accurate within 2mph of actual traffic speeds and generated through a number of public and private sources, such as a crowd-sourced community of nearly 100 million vehicles and devices, road sensors and incident reports.

Besides, it allows drivers to plan ahead by displaying how traffic conditions are expected to change up to eight hours before their next trip.

The traffic app also provides data and analyses the impacts of sporting events, concerts, school schedules and weather in order to help drivers avoid traffic congestion.

INRIX Community Relations director Jim Bak said Windows 8 provides the app users with the ability to plan their trips on their PC or tablet and then access all of their favourite routes and travel times conveniently from their Windows Phone.

INRIX Traffic app is now available in the Metro App store for Windows 8.

Headquartered in Washington, INRIX operates global traffic intelligence platforms to deliver smart data and analytics for a traffic community of approximately 100 million drivers.

Recently, the company was awarded a £57m contract from Network Information Services (NIS) in the UK to deliver real-time traffic speed and travel time information for the Highways Agency’s National Traffic Information Service (NTIS).
