The Anderson Bridge, located in the City of New Brunswick will be replaced with a new structure with C$94m ($70.2m) in federal-provincial funding.

For this new initiative, the Government of Canada will be providing nearly C$40.8m ($30.4m), while the Government of New Brunswick is providing C$53.6m ($40m).

The Anderson Bridge, is built over the Miramichi River along Route 8, which connects the villages located on the south side of the river with Miramichi’s west end.

"The improvements to this critical transportation route will help reduce traffic congestion and promote economic growth in the area."

Member of Parliament for Miramichi—Grand Lake Pat Finnigan said: "The Government of Canada is making investments like these in communities because modern and efficient infrastructure fosters economic growth which helps to strengthen the middle class.

“The federal contribution to the replacement of the Anderson Bridge will ensure that it remains a key link for travel, trade and daily life between northern and southern New Brunswick for years to come”

The bridge also serves as a crucial link between northeastern New Brunswick with the Trans-Canada Highway outside Fredericton, providing a connection to all of Canada, and markets in the US.

The new structure would feature a wider cross-section to accommodate the region’s present as well as future traffic needs.

In addition to the bridge replacement, the Canadian and the New Brunswick governments will be making an investment of C$13.7m ($10.2m) in federal-provincial funding for upgrades to the Harrisville Boulevard interchange on Route 15.

Member of Parliament for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe Ginette Petitpas Taylor said: "Public infrastructure connects people, supports job creation, and boosts economic development.

“The Government of Canada is working in close partnership with the Province of New Brunswick to ensure we make smart investments that help grow the middle class, promote sustainable development and increase public safety.

“The improvements to this critical transportation route will help reduce traffic congestion and promote economic growth in the area.”

By upgrading the Boulevard interchange, the government anticipates that it would help in creation of new jobs, grow the middle class, and support a high standard of living for New Brunswickers and their families.
