France-based Schneider Electric is set to implement one of Brazil’s first three multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) systems for highway concession company Renovias.

The new system will allow Renovias to carry out electronic toll collection without having to stop vehicle flow, while improving the overall driving experience in transit through toll stations.

It will also enable Renovias to operate the entire value chain, including channelled tolling, MLFF tolling, back-office, field equipment and systems.

The service allows vehicles to travel at constant speeds resulting in shorter user wait times and a lesser traffic jams and greenhouse gas emissions, thereby reducing the region’s pollution levels.

Schneider Electric will implement the technology, which offers services such as vehicle detection and classification based on the number of MLFF axes, and a simultaneous 5.8GHz and 900MHz tag reading system.

"The new system will allow Renovias to carry out electronic toll collection without having to stop vehicle flow, while improving the overall driving experience in transit through toll stations."

Other services include a front and rear license plate reading system in a free-flow vehicle state; an advanced monitoring system specialised in MLFF systems, and a back office system for manual and automatic image recognition.

The French company will implement its technology SmartMobility Tolling solution, which will feature simultaneous double tag reading system, and a front and rear license plate reading system.

It will allow operators to reduce the needs of operation, as well as maximise the reliability of vehicles detection. .

The back office system for manual and automatic recognition of images will optimise toll system operation and management, improve processes that are more effective for users, and reduce system operation-related costs.

Schneider Electric was recently awarded two contracts to implement the company’s free-flow technology in El Paso, Texas and their toll system back-office technology for Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) in Australia.
