The Swiss Government has unveiled a plan to invest more than $3.3bn between 2012 and 2015 to complete the remaining 100km part of the national motorway network.

After completion the total length of the motorway will be 1892.5km, out of which nearly 95% of the network has been already opened for traffic and 100km is awaiting for completion, according to

Most of the construction work due to be completed will be carried out in the cantons of Bern, Valais and Jura, while other works will be carried out in central Switzerland.

Switzerland had drawn up the plan to implement the motorway project in 1960. The motorway is planned as a high-speed network that would allow motorists to drive safely at up to 160km an hour.

The cost of the motorway network will be jointly funded by Swiss regions and federal government, with most of the cost borne by the central government.
