Consolidated London Highways Alliance contracts worth close to £2.6bn have been awarded to deliver road maintenance and infrastructure improvements across the city, which could save £450m over eight years.

The four new area-based joint highway contracts have been awarded to CVU, Ringway Jacobs, Conway Aecom JV and EnterpriseMouchel.

Jointly developed by TfL and the London Boroughs, the new contract frameworks include road maintenance, design and construction of new projects, lighting, winter maintenance and safety inspections, amongst other services

TfL will use the frameworks for all TfL Road Network (TLRN) highway contracts from April 2013, which are estimated to be worth up to £1.2bn during the next eight years.

Up to 12 London boroughs are expected to use these contracts for a variety of maintenance services, with further contracts likely to be delivered throughout the framework.

"The new contract frameworks include road maintenance, design and construction of new projects, lighting, winter maintenance and safety inspections."

Designed as a part of the Transforming London’s Highways Management initiative, each framework will run from April 2013 through to the end of March 2021, and cover specific geographic areas in London.

The London Highway Alliance Contract (LoHAC) is a pioneer scheme of the UK Department for Transport’s Highway Management Efficiency Programme, developed to maximise returns from highway investment and deliver efficient and effective services.

Transport for London’s roads director Dana Skelley said that investing in a transport network that is safe, reliable and customer focused is a major part of TfL’s everyday work.

"These new contracts will allow us to further deliver this work in an efficient manner through joined-up working with other London highway authorities, ensuring greater value for money and delivering a better road network for all," Skelley added.
