Australia’s Main Roads WA has awarded a $69m contract to contractor Brierty to upgrade the North West Coastal Highway located between Mia-Mia and Barradale in the Gascoyne and Pilbara regions.

Under the terms of the contract, Brierty will join forces with local contractor Bocol Constructions to perform the road work in its partnership.

Encompassing approximately 102km of road, the project is said to include the design, as well as the construction of two bridges, road widening, earthworks, pavements, drainage and associated infrastructure, The West Australian reported.

"Brierty has a long history with Main Roads and we have won repeat business by consistently delivering projects successfully, safely and on time."

Design works on the project are expected to begin with immediate effect.

The contract is slated for completion by the end of 2016.

Brierty managing director Peter McBain said the company already has experience in designing and constructing major road projects for Main Roads WA.

"Brierty has a long history with Main Roads and we have won repeat business by consistently delivering projects successfully, safely and on time," McBain said.

The latest project, which is said to be a vital one, is set to add to the current upgrade works the contractor is delivering on the Great Northern Highway and the Great Eastern Highway for Main Roads WA.

In addition, Brierty is also handling contracts with Perth Airport in building the new Airport Drive.
