Highways England in the UK will begin installing new safety barriers on the A590 around Lindale Hill near Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, to ensure a safe driving experience.

The Highways England scheme will be undertaken on the westbound and eastbound carriageways between Low Newton junction and Meathop roundabout, and will see the replacement of older safety barriers with new ones.

The work will start on 9 November and is expected to be completed by 20 December.

Highways England project manager Peter Gee said: "We will need to close the carriageways overnight for three nights as we install and remove the traffic management cones and barriers for the work, but otherwise the road will remain open at all times."

"We will need to close the carriageways overnight for three nights as we install and remove the traffic management cones and barriers for the work."

The installation of traffic management cones and barriers on the two carriageways will be done in two phases. Approximately £330,000 has been earmarked for the project.

The barriers will be first installed alongside the eastbound carriageway, which will be followed by installation along the westbound carriageway.

When the carriageways are shut for use by public, a signed diversion will be put up between Newby Bridge and Meathop roundabouts using the A592 and A591 via Windermere.

When work begins, one of the two lanes will be closed with a 50mph speed limit past the roadworks in the open lane, Highways England stated.

Last month, Highways England opened a new link road at the Catthorpe Interchange in an effort to improve the journeys for thousands of drivers travelling from the A14 to the M6 motorway.

The department then stated that as part of the M1 Junction 19 Catthorpe improvement scheme, the A14 to M6 westbound traffic would be moved onto the new link road, significantly reducing traffic at this bottleneck and improving journeys for some of the 142,000 vehicles that pass through the junction every day.
