Australian city Canada Bay has selected CellOPark’s mobile phone-based service to make parking payments easier.

With the help of the new service, motorists parking in the city will have the option to complete a one-time registration process and make parking payments by making a phone call or through CellOPark’s free smartphone app.

This eliminates the need to putting a ticket on the car dashboard, as well as the use of traditional pay and display machines. The technology is currently on trial on an initial six-month basis.

"We know that the motoring public has made the change from coins and never look back."

CellOPark general manager Michael Doherty said: "Our service has been in use for some time in other locations around Australia and we know that the motoring public has made the change from coins and never look back."

Canada Bay motorists can also use CellOPark’s new QR code technology, which simplifies the process of starting a paid parking session with a smartphone.

To use CellOPark, motorists need to install the app on their smartphone and register their vehicle, phone number and payment details to create an account. Non-smartphone users can also use the service by registering for free on the company’s official website.

The city’s parking officers will enforce ticketless parking by checking vehicle licence plates in the system with the help of their internet-connected devices.
