The Australian Federal and Queensland governments have awarded a $21m contract to Melbourne-based construction company Probuild Civil as a part of an $80m upgrade of Varsity Lakes Interchange on the Pacific Motorway.

The project, funded by federal and state governments, aims to improve motorist travel times and ease traffic congestion at this busy interchange.

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said that there will be better traffic flow through the signal intersections at the interchange and reduced queuing onto the motorway through Reedy Creek.

In addition, the upgrade is a part of the state and federal governments’ $420m development project including interchanges between Nerang and Varsity Lakes.

The work is expected to be completed by 2011.
