In a bid to support the national road rehabilitation project, the World Bank has announced it will provide $70m  of financial assistance to Uruguay.

With a maturity period of 17.5 years, the loan will be used to rehabilitate 260km of the total 890km of national roads being modernised in the country.

The loan will also be used to maintain 3,000km of the road network annually.

The rehabilitation programme also focuses on road safety and reducing climate change impact on the country’s road infrastructure.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded two hybrid annuity highway projects worth Rs2.72bn ($417m) to Indian infrastructure construction company, PNC Infratech.

Developed under National Highways Development Project (NHDP) III, the projects will increase the number of lanes to four on the Jhansi-Khajuraho section of the NH 75/76.

The Jhansi-Khajuraho section extends in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads will receive A$500m ($381.6m) funding from the Governments of Australia and Queensland for major road infrastructure projects in the state.

The funding will be used to expand the Pacific Motorway (M1) between Mudgeeraba and Varsity Lakes, to upgrade M1/Gateway Motorway merge (southbound lanes) at Eight Mile Plains, to construct Walkerston bypass near Mackay, and for the widening of Mt Lindesay Highway between Browns Plains and Beaudesert.

Danish planning company, Femern, has awarded a contract worth €114m ($122.46m) to a consortium comprising Ramboll, Arup and TEC.

The contract includes the provision of technical consultancy services to the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link project, which is a proposed 18km immersed tunnel between Lolland Island in Denmark and Fehmarn island of Germany.

Once completed, the tunnel, which is a combined road and rail link, is touted to become the world’s longest immersed tunnel.
