The Malaysian Government is planning to resubmit a proposal to construct a 110km Colombo-Kandy Toll Expressway project in Sri Lanka, which is estimated to cost $1bn.

The highway construction contract was supposed to be awarded to Malaysia in 2003, but the plan was dropped by both governments following the feasibility study.

Previously, the proposal was submitted by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) of Malaysia along with three local partners.

If constructed, the 116km highway connecting Kandy and Colombo will reduce journey time from three hours to 55 minutes.
