Swedish construction and development firm Skanska has secured a contract from Highways England to improve the A428 road in Cambridgeshire, England.

Under the £507m ($698m) contract, the company will build a 16km dual carriageway between the Black Cat roundabout at St Neots and the Caxton Gibbet hill.

As part of the project, Skanska will carry out a number of junction improvements.

These include building a three-tier junction at the roundabout to ensure a free traffic flow onto the A1 and the new carriageway.

The junction improvements are expected to create better routes for walkers, cyclists and horse riders as well as better connections to St Neots and its train station.

The project is expected to improve journeys between Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. It is hoped that this will improve economic growth in the region.

The project is due to open for traffic in 2025 or 2026.

In December, Skanska secured a contract from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to build a motorway between Bærum and Hole municipality in Eastern Norway.

The NKr3bn ($338m) contract involves turning the narrow road into a modern four-lane motorway, which will serve as an important exit and transport route in Eastern Norway.
