The Australian city of Belmont will receive funds of A$480m ($434.3m) to improve road networks and A$100m ($90.4m) for highway upgrades.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has promised funds to upgrade Tonkin Highway, Orrong Road and intersections around Perth Airport.

The Orrong Road will be upgraded to three lanes in the vicinity of the airport to ease traffic congestion and a rail link from Redcliffe to the airport is also planned.

The federal government’s Gateway WA project is part of a A$2bn ($1.8bn) road programme involving infrastructure projects of national significance in Australia, according to the Southern Gazette.
