The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in the US has awarded a contract to Cambridge Systematics to provide it with planning research and technical support.

Under the five-year, $10m deal, the company will work along with the agency’s state, regional, local, and private partners, to assist in planning for an effective intermodal transportation system for both passengers and freight.

The areas to focus on include congestion, freight, safety, security, border planning, economic development, as well as improved planning analysis methods, streamlining the planning process, and capacity building.

The new contract is the fifth successive planning support service contract by the FHWA to the company.
