An electronic toll management system will be installed on Portugal’s Euroscut Norte Motorway, which spans 119km between Porto and the northern border with Spain.

The contract has been awarded by the motorway’s concessionaire Cintra, a Ferrovial’s subsidiary, to Spanish-firm Indra.

Indra’s system will convert the shadow toll operation on the motorway to electronic tolls and is part of Portugal’s initiative to transform progressively shadow tolls paid on the administration to the concessionaire.

The system will direct traditional toll fees at plazas into Teletoll systems allowing users to pay with electronic TAGs installed in their vehicles, without reducing speed or changing lanes.

Indra will also handle the management systems and back office operations of the highway.
