With the official opening of the Blacksea Highway Project, the tunnels on the Boleman-Persembe section, which boast an especially high technical equipment level, were opened to traffic – among them the longest road tunnel in Turkey. The 3,800 meter long “Nefise-Akcelik” tunnel consists of two pipe sections and has been fitted with all its technical equipment by Siemens San.
The heart of the installation is the “Sitraffic ITCC” traffic control center. For the “Nefise-Akcelik” tunnel, this center monitors and controls the entire operating and traffic control equipment as well as all outstations.
The safety equipment installed in the tunnel includes a fire detection and fire extinguishing system with seperate water supply and pumping station. Camera and video monitoring equipment (CCTV) is used to monitor traffic.
The integrated AID (Automatic Incident Detection) system is able to detect not only traffic jams and accidents, but also smoke. For voice transmission an emergency call system and a tunnel radio system were installed. PLC-based roadside stations will transfer data between all the technical systems and the tunnel control center. There the incoming operating and traffic data serve as the basis for choosing the appropriate control programs for traffic lights and variable message signs in and in front of the tunnel. Thus road users are kept informed of the current situation at all times.
