The US Department of Transportation’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Joint Programme Office (JPO) has awarded a $202m-worth contract to Booz Allen Hamilton.

The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract involves development of intelligent transportation systems such as greater automation in cars and increased connectivity among vehicles, which are anticipated to ease transportation in the urban areas.

As part of the contract, Booz Allen will assist ITS JPO staff in executing research, development and deployment activities, as well as help the Office comply with legislative and regulatory requirements.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has awarded a $192m-worth contract to Ferrovial’s subsidiary, Webber.

The contractual scope includes expansion of a 13km section of the US 281 between Loop 1604 and Borgfeld Drive in Bexar County, San Antonio, by adding three new lanes. Of the three, two lanes will be for general use and the other will be for high-occupancy vehicles in each direction.

With an objective to provide modern and efficient infrastructure to support the high-standard of living and growing Canadian economy, the Government of Canada and Nova Scotia intend to provide more than C$21m ($15.6m) in federal-provincial funding.

The funding will be used to construct a new Aerotech connector road between Trunk 2 and Highway-102 at Exit-5 in Nova Scotia.

The new connector will create an alternative route to the Fall River/Wellington area and, thus, improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the growing hub. It will also offer new opportunities for commercial and residential development.

In a move to strengthen collaboration in the field of connected and autonomous driving solutions, the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the European Automotive Telecom Alliance (EATA).

The two companies will work together to support connected and automated driving, standardisation, and prioritisation for standards bodies such as European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and SAE.

The agreement will also address spectrum-related issues (V2X), agreement on usage modalities of certain bands, security and privacy, as well as vehicle safety requirements to be supported by both mobile network operators (MNOs) and vehicle manufacturers.
